Brain Injury in Children and Youth: A Manual for Educators

The Colorado Department of Education has put together this manual, in collaboration with medical and educational professionals, to inform and advise educators in terms of teaching students with a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). Many people do not realize how common it is for children to suffer a brain injury. TBI is a leading cause of death and disability among children ages 1 to 19 years in the United States. As a result, many children and teens are currently living with long-lasting, significant alterations in social, behavioral, physical and cognitive functioning. This manual has all the information educators would need to understand this condition, its many causes and symptoms, and the interventions that could help those who suffer from it, to provide a fully supportive and accessible environment.
