Strategies to Increase Representation of Students with Disabilities in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)

To increase representation of students with disabilities (SWD) in the Science, Technology, Engineering, Math (STEM) departments, the University of Louisiana at Lafayette (ULL) developed a program focused on 4 specific areas: 1) STEM-SwD Transition Program, 2) STEM-SwD Specialized Tutoring Services, 3) Ability Specialist: Specialized Advising to Provide Individualized Counseling for Personal, Career, Financial Aid and Academic Matters, and 4) Student Learning Communities (SLC). The overall goal is to make adequate training in the STEM area accessible to SWD.
