Getting Students Excited About Learning: Incorporating Digital Tools to Support the Writing Process

This article describes the use of 2 free technologies (Skype and wireless keyboard and iPads with Popplet and Book Creator) to promote classroom inclusiveness and engagement of reluctant or struggling writers. Deaf students used Skype and the wireless keyboard to actively participate in a writing class project, share their work and receive feedback from other readers. Students with unique learning needs characteristic of visual impairments, cerebral palsy, auditory processing disorders, and language delay used iPads with Popplet and Book Creator to develop writing skills.
