The 2020 Federal Youth Transition Plan: A Federal Interagency Strategy

Prepared by the Federal Partners in Transition (FPT) Work group, this plan highlights a shared vision: federal cross-systems initiatives that align with established goals and outcomes, and policy priorities. The FPT was formed in 2005 to improve interagency policy and service coordination to support all youth, including youth with disabilities, in successfully transitioning from school to adulthood. FPT brings together political, senior executive, and career staff from federal agencies across multiple systems to collaborate on transition issues. The purpose of the 2020 Federal Youth Transition Plan is to enhance interagency coordination, to develop compatible goals to improve outcomes for youth with disabilities in transition, and to help agencies approach transition in a more integrated way that will lead to improved outcomes by 2020.
